Statement

The artistic and dramatic visual characteristic of my photographs stem from the desire to constantly improve the way I see things and also my interest in architecture.

My first contact with photography was in England and I was fascinated with the two worlds that had opened to me: England and the photography. The former enabled me to visualise the new coexisting with the ancient, the modern and the classic, all in harmony. The later provided me with the possibility to show my view of the world through the photographic technique.

My photographs do not come from any particular desire to see the world through a lens but they come from my deep passion for capturing that unique moment with all my senses.

My work started with black and white analog photography in London in the 90s. The whole process of creation of my photographs has always been run by me, i.e. shooting, developing the film, enlarging the image in the darkroom and the final presentation of the photograph.

Today I take pictures with a digital camera. My process involves attention to detail at the moment of shooting along with the work of "digital darkroom" to optimize and adjust the technical parameters in order to achieve the desired result.

I take pictures of cities, people in their daily lives, and nature. But my passion is buildings. They display our history through the times. I am not satisfied just looking at their facade. I like walking around, almost "flirting" with them to discover their true essence. Then, they become sumptuous, unique.

A subject may seem common in the eyes of many but I try to capture in it something else, something that motivates a reflection in the eyes of the beholder.

I get inspired by great photographers like Roloff Beny, Cristiano Mascaro, Annie Leibovitz, Sebastiao Salgado, Claudia Jaguaribe, Bill Brandt, Dorothy Bohm, Jorge Sato, among others. Their photographs have soul, which always make me want to be willing to take photos.

I believe that the most important thing in the work of photography is to evoke an emotional response in the viewer, whose reaction is what motivates me to keep shooting. Photography involves a constant communication between the photographer, the subject and the viewer. In order to achieve this, I need to have sensitivity in the perception of the world. The more I observe the more I search for answers which lead me to constant learning.

“Encontro nas fotografias as memórias de um mundo que não vivi e por meio de minhas fotografias pretendo deixar as memórias do mundo que vivi.”

A característica visual dramática e artística de minhas fotografias vêm de um aprimoramento constante do olhar para com o cotidiano e também de um interesse por arquitetura ao longo da vida.

Meu primeiro contato com a fotografia foi na Inglaterra e fiquei fascinada com os dois mundos que se abriam para mim: a Inglaterra e a fotografia. O primeiro, pela harmonia com que o novo convive com antigo e o moderno com o clássico. O segundo de eu poder mostrar a minha visão de mundo por meio da técnica fotográfica.

Minhas fotografias não surgem a partir de qualquer desejo particular de ver o mundo através de uma lente, mas sim da minha profunda paixão de captar, com todos os meus sentidos, os momentos únicos.

Meu trabalho começou com a fotografia analógica black and white nos anos 90 em Londres.

Todo o processo de criação das minhas fotografias em película foi sempre executado por mim, ou seja, fotografar, revelar o filme, ampliar a imagem no darkroom e a montagem para a apresentação final da fotografia.

Atualmente uso equipamento digital. Meu processo envolve atenção aos detalhes na minha técnica de campo juntamente com o trabalho de "darkroom digital" para otimizar e ajustar parâmetros técnicos com a finalidade de alcançar os resultados do meu imaginário no momento de fotografar.

Fotografo as cidades, a natureza, as pessoas em seu cotidiano e principalmente os edifícios. Eles contam a nossa história através do tempo. Não me contento em apenas olhá-los na sua fachada. Gosto de andar a sua volta, quase que "flertando" com eles até descobrir a sua verdadeira essência. Aí, então eles se tornam imponentes, únicos.

Um assunto a ser fotografado pode parecer comum aos olhos de muitos mas eu procuro captar nele algo a mais, algo que motive uma reflexão no espectador.

Me inspiro em grandes fotógrafos como Roloff Beny, Cristiano Mascaro, Annie Leibovitz, Sebastião Salgado, Claudia Jaguaribe, Bill Brandt, Dorothy Bohm, Jorge Sato, entre outros. Suas fotografias têm alma. São fotógrafos cujos trabalhos me fazem querer estar sempre com minha câmera fotografando.

Acredito que numa fotografia o mais importante é evocar uma resposta emocional no espectador e é esta reação que me motiva a continuar fotografando. Para isso é preciso ter sensibilidade na percepção do mundo. Quanto mais observo mais eu procuro por respostas, o que me leva a um aprendizado constante.
